California Dreaming
Have you been dreaming of an affordable vacation?
Whether that be some fun in the sun or even a ski vacation in the mountains – these trips aren’t getting any cheaper.
California Dreaming has been on my mind and it has been since that first Canada Day party back in 2003.
Shown in the picture from left to right:
Steve Esson – the sign-maker for Sequoia National park for many years.
(He made our Canada Day sign – shown in the back ground).
Me, my good bud CB (Canadian Bill) and his wife Julie (look up Juju Tutu on TikTok).
Traveling in your Blood
I knew I had traveling in my blood and as a result I created a new website called Canucktions.com back in 2008 to commemorate my yearly trips to Lompico California which is in the Santa Cruz mountains among the redwoods.
The term “Canucktions” is a blend of “Canuck” (a slang term for a Canadian) and “connections.” It refers to Canadian connections or contacts.
I even had a flag that combined the US and Canadian flags showing the connection that was dear to me. Blasphemous to some – a good connection to others!
But my travelling days went back even further than that.
Back in high school the languages department arranged a yearly trip for any students that could come up with the cash to fund such trips.
And for me that meant a trip in my senior year to Cartagena, Colombia.
I think it was that flight in – that had me hooked. After getting off the plane there was this whoosh of hot air that hit us – and I was in heaven.
And so was born the Snowbird in me.
Out with Old and In with the New
I’m sorry to say Canucktions.com has run it’s course. If it is before Feb 2025, you can catch a glimpse of the old site by clicking/tapping on the Canucktions logo below. In early Feb 2025, the logo will be linked out to a fine small business hosting company – Host Papa – who I was with for many years.
It was also my company name for a good 14 years – Canucktions Reporting Inc.
It did me well and as a contractor I was able to easily afford many all-inclusive sun vacations.
So besides the yearly trips to visit friends in California, my travel bud Randy and I got to experience R ‘n’ R trips to mainland Mexico, Cozumel, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Costa Rica and Hawaii.
I have a good backgound with my travels and I did most of the research and arranging for flights and transport from airport to resort.
My credentials are good in the way of arranging travels.
And not only fun in the sun, I have a bit of experience living in Jasper National Park where I worked winters up at the Marmot Basin Ski hill for a few years – among many other jobs in Jasper.
Canucktions may be going away – but as they say – out with the old and in with the new.
In the regard of the new, I invite you to get on my list by clicking/tapping the free video link below my profile picture on this page.
The video itself will introduce you to my vacation-funding mentor as well as a potential means to pad your income for affordable vacations.
I provide snowbirds on my list – a viable means to pad their income so they can leave that funding worry behind them; and so they can get excited about enjoying those affordable trips. Are you one of those potential snowbirds?
Concluding Remarks
Yes – traveling is becoming a more and more of an expensive proposition.
It seems regular pay checks need to take care of your housing and normal every day expenses.
And us Snowbirds – need to come up with other means to fund the trips we oh so want and need for proper R ‘n’ R – and perhaps making California Dreaming a reality.
Snowbirds Unite!
Let me know in the comments of one destination you have in mind that you will need funding for. I also welcome all comments about the content within. Thanks for reading and participating.
Hi Bob,
Great post and brought a bit of a chuckle for me.
Being an Army brat and an Officer in the Army sure has brought a few moves or vacation spots!
When we last moved to Ottawa, a friend helping us out asked me how many times I had moved up to that point? 22 times…(and that doesn’t include the vacation spots LOL!)
So like you, I’ve had my share of visiting beautiful places that I’d like to go back to — some more than others.
I think the most beautiful visit was to New Zealand and Fiji for our honeymoon and I’d like to think that we can plan our next visit in 2025!
Reflecting on what went right in 2024 and how I could have improved myself was also another tasking I took during this Holiday break.
Starting off 2025 on the right foot with clear objectives is definitely in the books!
Wishing you safe travels and a fantastic 2025!
Hi, Bob!
I’d like to go camping in Montana (in the summer). I had a professor in college from there who painted such a romantic picture of the place. She’d just about beg anyone to go there and see the warm sunshine themselves. She missed it quite a bit.
Safe travels and best wishes in 2025!
Hi Bob, I don’t have any trips planned for this upcoming year. I prefer my home. However, I am open to new adventures and I hope that this year provides income opportunities that will fund these adventures. It’s hard to say where I would most like to go. Most of my family live in California and Oregon, so those would be perfect destinations. Another family member lives in Norfolk Virginia. I can drive there and may do that this year too. Life is short so eat dessert first.
Hi Bob,
I love how you’ve shared your travel stories and the passion you have for exploring new places. It’s inspiring to see how you’ve turned your love for travel into something meaningful for others. The idea of helping snowbirds fund their vacations is so thoughtful and practical. California Dreaming sounds amazing, and I’m sure many people will connect with this! For me, I’d love to visit Italy someday, definitely a trip I’d need to save for. Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year! 🥂🥳

Hi Bob! Ahhh, traveling! Just the thought of being able to visit a familiar or a place that is new is so invigorating. We love to travel but we don’t get to as much as time and finances sometimes get in the way. I hope that changes soon. If I can’t physically travel somewhere, I have an active imagination that I find myself traveling to many exotic places in my mind. Ha ha ha! I enjoy reading your posts and Happy New Year, my friend!
