Clarity Creates Momentum
Nowhere is that more true than in building an online business, especially for those of us navigating semi‑retirement or a major life transition.
In a recent Internet Profits Academy coaching session, we were challenged with a deceptively simple question: Who is the ONE person you want to serve?
This wasn’t just an exercise. It was the first step in a four‑part, 90‑day clarity plan designed to help us stop spinning our wheels and finally create real forward motion.
Today, I’m focusing on that first step because without it, the other three don’t stand a chance.
Why This Question Matters More Than You Think
During the session, we were asked to answer three foundational questions:
- Who are they?
- What is their situation?
- Why do they need me?
These aren’t abstract marketing prompts. They’re the doorway to understanding the human being on the other side of the screen…the person who’s frustrated, searching, hopeful, and ready for a guide they can trust.
When you know exactly who you’re speaking to, everything else becomes easier:
- Your content becomes clearer.
- Your offers become sharper.
- Your messaging becomes more confident.
- Your audience feels seen, understood, and supported.
That’s the power of clarity.
The 90‑Day Clarity Plan (And Why Step One Is the Anchor)
The coaching session laid out a simple but powerful four‑step framework:
- Identify the ONE person you want to serve.
- Identify ONE problem they have.
- Identify ONE thing they can buy from you in 60 seconds.
- Choose ONE lane to stay in for 90 days.
It’s tempting to jump ahead…to brainstorm offers, build funnels, or create content. But without Step One, everything else becomes guesswork.
When you define your one person, the rest of the plan stops feeling overwhelming and starts feeling inevitable.
Who Is Your One Person? (And Why It Must Be Specific)
For me, the answer became clear:
I serve Canadians aged 50+ who want more than a so‑so retirement. They’re curious, community‑minded, and ready to build clarity, confidence, and income in semi‑retirement without hype, overwhelm, or tech chaos.
Your one person might look different. But they must be real. Tangible. Human.
Not “everyone.”
Not “people who want to make money online.”
Not “just retirees.”
One person. One situation. One need.
Because when you speak to one, you resonate with many.
Why They Need You (Yes, You)
This is the part many people skip. But it’s the heart of the whole exercise.
Your one person needs you because:
- You’ve walked a similar path.
- You understand their fears and frustrations.
- You can simplify what feels overwhelming.
- You offer a trustworthy, human‑first approach.
- You help them move forward with clarity and confidence.
People don’t buy information.
They buy guidance.
They buy trust.
They buy momentum.
And clarity is what unlocks all three.
Where This Leads Next
Once you define your one person, the next steps become dramatically easier:
- One problem becomes obvious.
- One simple offer becomes doable.
- One lane becomes a relief instead of a restriction.
This is how you stop spinning your wheels.
This is how you build real momentum.
This is how you create a business that feels aligned, sustainable, and deeply human.
And it all starts with one person.
