Up on the Soapbox: Semi-retired Life-work Balance

Where do I start – Up on the Soapbox with a Semi-retired Life-work Balance overview? We’ll go way back – eventually.

For now, I hope this journal of mine will contain topics and further info to be of assistance if you are at or approaching a semi-retired life.

Semi-retired Life-work Balance. A-OK! Two Thumbs Up

I’ll tell you where I’m at.

I turned 65 last month (August 2025). On Sep 23 (one of my brother’s 60th birthday as well) I received my first provincial government retirement deposit. That was the Alberta Seniors Benefit. More on that another time…then tomorrow being Sep 25 I am expecting this month’s government retirement funds to be deposited. And those are from OAS and GIS.

The taxation year prior to my 65th birthday was a write off with a trickle of hours of work to get me through some tough times financially. I’ve begun the rebuild of my credit and I’ll soon be booking vacays and tropical trips. 65 -70 are the go-go years – and my intentions are there.

Achieving Life-work Balance

Basically, I want to ensure that feeling of affluence – and not just taking care of the bare necessities. So I pad my retirement two fold. At the leading edge is my part-time working community with Chef Eric Um at the helm. It’s good to be of assistance when needed.

On the tail edge of that is my online community of like-minded entrepreneurs who take lead from a wealthy man out of the UK. Dean Holland is his name and when you get on my email list mailings, you have the potential to hear much from and about Dean. Outside of those emailings I try to keep things at a more personal level. My sidebar offerings lead to the business topic side of things. And if you really wanted to – check out prior blog posts which had a bigger commercial influence.

That all sounded too much like work.

Achieving Life Balance

Ahh…That’s better!

Retirement is basically my breakfast routine, getting ready for the day, daily walk-abouts and exercises, picking up grocery shopping extras, and doing chores. Ain’t that mouthfully boring, lol?

But wait a minute, there is also my digital goings on. In that light I invite you to follow along, we have much to discuss.

It is my hope that any of the info I pass on to you from here on in – will enable you to enjoy the Good Life from a semi-retirement point of view.

Up on the Soapbox Today

I envision to highlight post-humous digital life achievements in one section of my Soapbox offerings. Such as…

I’d like to announce a celebration of a life well-lived. Steve Komar was a grade-school/junior high/high school classmate back in Ontario in the ’70’s and lost contatct after that. We reconnected about ten years ago with us both being in Calgary. I’ll dedicate a whole post about his positive influence. They will be live-streaming Steve’s funeral mass at 10 AM Mountain time on Saturday October 4, 2025.

This is our Retirement. Norm and Tina provided lots of valuable retirement  and travel advice. Originally from the UK, they made the move to Canada. I believe the advice will remain valuable just coming from Tina. It was sad to hear that her husband, Norm passed due to a sudden health issue.

Bob and Brad. The two most famous physio-therapists on the Internet. (in their opinion of course). It was so sad to watch Bob endure his health issues. The channel is still going after the death of Bob.

Travel Costa Rica Now dot com. On the YouTube channel, it was sad to learn the Michael Alan has passed. His partner is managing things online and it sounds like both the travel and real estate businesses are alive.

Bottom line valuable tip. Over 60? These 5 Exercises are better than walking. Just don’t stop all the walking, lol.

Let me know in the comments if you intend on picking up those 5 exercises. I gave it a shot yesterday ‘cept for the bird-dog hold. And I still did my neighbourhood walk.
