Encounters of The Fourth Kind

I’m thinking bots are kind of beyond being aliens – hence I tie them to being encounters of the Fourth Kind.

Encounters of the Fourth Kind

And in this post I’ll proceed to tell you about my latest encounter of the Fourth Kind in Facebook land.

Everything’s all Tickety-boo, Then Bam!

How often has your chosen traffic strategy been humming along when Bam!

Your content has been removed by the social media powers that be?

I’ve had a number of such encounters and each time I am equally taken aback.

“This can’t be!”, as I exclaim in denial.

Then as I look into it further, I see there is no further.

Just a simple statement of violating community standards.

And further research shows me that I am supposed to know what part of those standards I have violated.

I pride myself for reading the fine print but – hey – I’m not going to know everything.

And then it just becomes a best guess scenario as to what I did wrong and how to correct it.

Many of the rules are applied by bots and lucky the day you get speak to a real person to get your answers, eh.

Latest Encounter of the Fourth Kind

I have a 2024 target to establish my online presence as an affiliate marketer and one of my tasks to do so – is with an activity that I call blog sharing.

And it’s an activity that really extends the reach of blog hopping.

The idea is to find blog content in your niche and make thoughtful comments on a particular post and then shout out to your folks on your social media accounts about the wonderful blog post and by whom.

I am assured by a coach that such activity may seem counter-intuitive but it helps me achieve my target to establish my online presence.

You not only get the attention of your regular audience – but quite often that of the actual blogger whose wonderful post you\’ve just shared.

Steps to Blog Sharing

To set yourself up for the task of blog sharing, keep a separate text file for each of the bloggers that you intend to share their content.

  1. Create a new text file or Open an existing text file in the name of your blogger.
  2. Enter these item headings in each text file.
(Feel free to alter the template and make it your own.)

    Blogger’s Name:
    Blog URL:
    Date:

    — On Facebook (business page) and LinkedIn (company page)

    — On X.com

    — My comments

  3. Read the blogger’s post and come up with content for each of the headings.
  4. Enter your comments that you’ve made directly on the blogger’s post under “My Comments”.
  5. Enter apropriate announcements of the blogger and the topic of their post that you will make on your social media account.

I separated my headings because I need to keep my announcements brief on X and the other social media accounts have no character limit that I know of. The other two accounts I post on are my Facebook Business Page and my LinkedIn Company page.
  6. After all posts have been made, save and close the blogger’s text file.
You will have a historic list of all the comments and announcements you’ve made regarding each blogger.

Encounters of the Fourth Kind

During one blog sharing session I had 3 bloggers’ text files ready to go and each blogger’s post open.

And during the second sharing I realized I had a notification from Facebook.

It read something like, “We have removed some of your content for violating Community Standards, see why.“.

Well geez, the post was not unlike any other so I clicked to see why.

And they had already removed my content and everything apppeared to be good.

That – had me scratching my head wondering what was up.

What You Should Know

The typical stance is that you SHOULD KNOW what the standards are.

And as much as you thought you knew the rules, you are now faced with more research to find out what’s up with encounters of the Fourth Kind.

If you are ever in that situation, I have a few links for you to follow:

1. The Facebook Support Inbox

Just make sure you have your personal account or a business page open before opening that support link.

2. Instructions to let Facebook know that you disagree

3. Faceboook Community Standards for SP*M

After I determined that they cited me for SP*M, I had to read item number 3 carefully.

Then it was up to me to determine where I had gone wrong.

My Best Guess

There were two possibilities and I’ll move ahead with caution on these.

First is the frequency of my posts. I will take my time and not make posts one after the other without taking extra time between posts.

And second was a brief mention of hashtags. My guess was that by using the same hashtags over and over on different posts, Facebook took that as being SP*M. So therefore I will start using those hashtags sparingly.

In Conclusion

Hopefuly some of this helps you out if you ever have Encounters of the Fourth Kind.

At the very least you now have a few links that can get you started on some investigations if this ever comes up in Facebook.

  1. Your encounter with Facebook’s community standards and the resulting removal of your content is something many of us can relate to. In fact, I had an ad that had been running for 6 months suddenly shut down with the claims it violated the platform’s standards. These reminders let us know that we are only visitors on these platforms and are subject to their rules and regulations. Therefore, not putting your eggs all in one basket is critical. Thank you so much for providing links to navigate Facebook’s support and for disputing decisions. This is particularly helpful. Thanks again for sharing these experiences and solutions. Looking forward to more of your valuable insights!

  2. What a great idea to add blog sharing in addition to blog hopping. Recently, I have started to put links in my blog to some blogs out there that support what I’m trying to communicate. I did that very thing this week in my blog. Honestly, in relation to your social media statements, this makes me very nervous. I tried to follow all the rules as you state you do, but you still got flagged. I hope to avoid this and if it ever happens, I may be calling on you to see what I can do to rectify. I hope you are well my friend and have a wonderful week!

  3. Hi Robert,

Your approach to blog sharing is fascinating and innovative. It’s a great strategy to not only extend your reach but also to build connections within your niche. I love the idea of making thoughtful comments and then sharing those posts on social media. It’s a win-win for everyone involved. This method shows genuine support and can foster a strong sense of community. Thanks for sharing these detailed steps; they’re incredibly helpful. Looking forward to more of your valuable insights!

  4. Hey Bob! I love your explanation of what to do if Facebook flags you. I haven’t faced this yet, but I’m sure I will. It seems to happen even when all is done with the best of intentions. So, a heartfelt thank you!

Thanks for the advice on blog sharing. I’m working on starting a blog-hopping strategy, so perfect timing!

    Thanks again!

  5. Your instructions on how to get a response from Meta is helpful. I suppose those of us working with Sophie have a better than average chance of not getting flagged. But there are no guarantees!!

These are the pitfalls all of us run into at one time or another. May as well consider the flag as a time to take a break!!

  6. Hi Robert,
Had the same scenario when I had a drop-shipping business. My account was suspended without any notification and when I tried to contact support, well, you guessed it, crickets…. When I finally was able to contact support, they came back with the mumbo jumbo of their sp#m parameters which, I knew I hadn’t broken because, like you, I had been running that same ad for quite some time.
I think Alison was spot on when she mentions that we are only visitors on these platforms.
    Wishing you all the best!

  7. Hi Robert,
This can be such a frustrating thing. I’ve seen advertising on FB reels that were for libido enhancement and the videos were unfiltered pornography, when I reported it they said it wasn’t removed after being fact checked. Then I post a couple weeks back a picture of a tiger’s eye with the saying “Don’t Lose Focus” and immediately FB took it down and suspended all my access just short of shutting down my page. They said the post was flagged as sexual exploitation. I did all I could and now have waited almost 2 weeks for someone to view my appeal. You shared important info here and will be super useful 🙂
Here’s to better encounters of the Fourth Kind in the future.
