The Knowledge, Skill, and Time Gap Holding Back Your Online Income

Why Isn’t This Working Yet?

Ever feel like you’re doing all the right things with your online business and still not seeing results? You’re not alone, and there’s usually a simple reason for it.

I sat in on a training recently that laid out something called “The Gap.” It’s the space between where you are today and where you want to be. And once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

There Are Only Three Things Living in That Gap

Turns out, whenever things aren’t working, it comes down to one of three things. Knowledge. Skill. Time.

That’s it. Not twelve things. Not some complicated system. Three.

Knowledge

Do you have a clear plan for what to do next? Not a vague idea. A real, tactical answer.

If you don’t, that’s the easiest one to fix. Go get the knowledge.

Skill

Knowing what to do and actually being good at doing it are two different things.

This one takes some honesty. Are you avoiding the doing part because you’re not confident yet? Most of us do, more than we’d like to admit.

Time

Here’s the one nobody wants to hear. Sometimes you’re doing everything right, but you haven’t been at it long enough yet. Time multiplies whatever you repeatedly do. Good or not so good.

A Real Example

I heard about someone who made videos every other day for two years. Over 300 of them. Following advice from a well-known marketer. And they went nowhere.

Not because the person wasn’t trying. Because nobody ever stepped back once a month to ask “is this actually working?” No feedback. No adjusting. Just more of the same.

That’s the trap or maybe even leading to crap. 🙁

Repetition without feedback isn’t progress. It’s just motion.

And unfortunately, that was a big mistake for me – lot’s of repetition and no feedback on MY YouTube Videos.

A Grounding Reminder

If something feels stuck, it’s tempting to think “I’m just not cut out for this” or “this whole thing doesn’t work.”

But almost always, it’s one of the three. Knowledge, skill, or time. Figure out which one, and you know exactly what to fix next.

So I’ll Ask You

If your online business or side project isn’t moving the way you hoped, which one do you think it is for you?

Knowledge, skill, or time?

Drop a comment below and tell me where you think you’re stuck. I read every one, and I’d genuinely like to help you think it through.

  1. Great reminder! I think we sometimes assume that if we work hard enough, success is supposed to show up on schedule. Sometimes the answer really is to keep learning, keep improving, and keep showing up.

I also liked your point about feedback. There is a big difference between being busy and actually making progress. Thanks for another thought-provoking post.

    1. Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment, Ernie. I’m glad the message resonated with you.

I think you’ve summed it up perfectly – hard work is important, but it’s the combination of learning, improving, and consistently showing up that moves us forward. And you’re absolutely right about feedback. It’s not always easy to hear, but it’s often the fastest path to real progress if we’re willing to listen.

I really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. Conversations like this make writing these posts worthwhile.
